Leachate aka, Garbage Juice

There have been several studies conducted on the impact of leachate in relation to public health.  While it is typically an issue in landfill waste areas, it could affect your home environment. Cleaning Trash Cans needs to be done in a professional manner where all the dirty water is disposed of safely. That is where we come in. We want people to live in a safe and clean environment.

What is it?

Leachate is a dark liquid which forms when water or some other liquid in your trash mixes with decayed matter, whether that be rotten food, compost material, animal waste, etc. This can especially happen when there is a lot of rainfall in the area. It can also be very dangerous if it mixes with the wrong chemicals/substances.

Why Should I Care?

Leachate can commonly carry pathogens (an organism that can produce disease). The longer your trash remains unclean, the more likely it is to have leachate sitting at the bottom of the bin. In other words, it puts you and your loved ones at risk of getting sick more and more every day, simply from coming into contact with the trash bin.

What is the worst that could happen?

Exposure to leachate could result in many different diseases. Some of these include GI infections, respiratory issues, skin and eye irritation, liver and kidney damage, and even cancer. In extreme cases, you could even be exposed to leachate through the air.
